Last week, our shareholder company newcleo managed to achieve an important milestone in the preparation and testing of the new technology. The main vessel of the PRECURSOR reactor electrical demonstrator has been successfully transported and installed.

The oversized component completed a challenging journey along the narrow Italian roads from Piombino in Tuscany to Brasimone in the Apennines.

PRECURSOR is a test facility designed to verify the technology of future commercial lead-cooled fast reactors of the LFR-AS-200 type, which are planned for the Jaslovské Bohunice site.

Although the dimensions of the demonstrator vessel are smaller than those used in the final LFR-AS-200 reactors, with a weight of more than 20 tons, they still posed a significant challenge in transport. The total weight of the system after filling with liquid lead and internal components will exceed 155 tons.

PRECURSOR is a 10 MWth demonstrator for newcleo’s commercial Lead-cooled Fast Reactors (LFRs). While non-nuclear, it is fully representative of the plant’s operating cycle, including electricity generation.
